Nintendo gives a little more GBA bang for your buck.
As if Nintendo's hold on the handheld market wasn't strong enough, yesterday they announced a global price drop for the Game Boy Advance. Resulting from decreased component costs and production efficiencies, GBA's new suggested retail price is $79.95 in the U.S., and will be effective starting February 1, 2002. That's like... this Friday. A nifty $10 price drop? Wow.
Nearly 5 million GBA units have been sold in North America since its June 2001 release, and Nintendo is still confident in shipping 23.5 million GBA/GBC units worldwide by the end of March 2002.
“The new price point truly positions Game Boy Advance as a video game system for the mass market,” says Peter Main, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Nintendo of America Inc. “Coupled with an explosive amount of incredible software scheduled for the year, Game Boy Advance is positioned to become the best-selling video game hardware system of all time.”
And as a reminder, February 11 sees the release of another SNES-GBA coversion in the form of Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2. Sonic Advance is expecting a N. American February arrival as well thanks to Sega/THQ. |
