Nintendo's, Namco's, and Sega's GameCube-based arcade board shown in Japan today.
Today at the AOU 2002 Amusement Expo in Makuhari, Japan, a protoype of the next-generation arcade hardware born from a business alliance between Sega, Namco, and Nintendo has been shown to the public. Dubbed "Triforce," this new hardware is based off the GameCube architecture and is being backed by Namco and Sega in hopes of expanding the dwindling arcade market by introducing a "new fun-game system to bridge the home and game arcade entertainment experience." Providing a cost-effective environment for arcade development was one of the key reasons to produce "Triforce," and in it's current form it looks like a "faceless" purple GameCube with an external GD-ROM drive attached by a cable. We'll be seeing what Sega and Namco has planned for it in the near future. |
