First Quarter report shows high success for GBA, low success for Gamecube.
Nintendo Co. has issued financial details from the first quarter of its current fiscal year, which ended June 30. In the quarter, group sales were reported as 83.82 billion yen (approximately $699.0 million U.S.), while a group net profit of 11.45 billion yen (approximately $95.5 million U.S.) was realized. Nintendo said it sold 3.24 million Game Boy Advance units worldwide in the quarter, with about 85 percent (approximately 2.75 million) of those sales made up of Game Boy Advance SPs. The SP has been popular throughout its release. Comparatively, GameCube sales were reported as a paltry 80,000 units in the period, according to a Reuters story, putting the Gamecube well behind its chief competitors, namely the Sony PS2 and the Microsoft Xbox.
