Company adamant about playing future role in console wars.
Recently, Nintendo Co. Ltd. has been very insistant that it would still be a player in future console hardware wars.
A story found in the Japanese newspaper The Nihon Keizai business daily inferred that Nintendo would not release a successor to its GameCube console, instead choosing to renew its focus as strictly a software provider, a direction many in the industry believe would better fit Nintendo's competitive advantage.
Nintendo has denied these rumors however responding that they already have begun work on the Gamecube's successor which "would be ready in 2005 or 2006."
Nintendo spokesman Yasuhiro Minagawa stated, "Other companies aren't expected to come out with next-generation consoles until late 2005 or 2006. Our machine will be ready at the same time as the other new consoles."
