Alienware Contest concludes
by Jolex Del Pilar

Tuesday, March 9, 2004

Winners awarded with super workstation.

Alienware announced today the winners of its first ever 3D design challenge. Alienware, along with sponsors Intel, PNY, and NVIDIA, partnered with graphics art portal CGNetworks to host a contest inviting 3D artists worldwide to create an original rendering of a mysterious alien location.

The contest ran during a period of three months from October 20, 2003 through January 20, 2004. During that time, an astonishing 3,873 creative entries were received. CG Networks members voted to narrow the entries down to a final list of 145 and both Alienware and CGNetworks selected the final winners.

The grand prize winner will receive an Alienware MJ-12 workstation worth over $6,000 loaded with an Intel Dual Xeon 3.2 GHz processor and an NVIDIA Quadro FX 3000 by PNY graphics board. First runner up will receive an NVIDIA Quadro FX 3000 by PNY graphics board and the second runner up will receive a 256MB USB flash drive. Honorable mention finalists will receive an Alienware coffee mug and a copy of EXPOSé 1, the industry's first art book celebrating the creative talents of digital artists worldwide, by Ballistic Publishing.

“The Alienware Challenge was a unique opportunity for us to do something special with the 3D community worldwide,” said Leonard Teo, editor of CGNetworks and CGTalk. “The quality of the entries is truly astonishing and we're elated to have the international graphic arts community really get involved. On behalf of the CGNetworks crew, we congratulate the winners, and everyone that took part in this contest.”

The 3D Design Challenge is regarded as the largest and most successful 3D design contest to ever run on the CGNetworks website. The winning entries may be viewed on www.alienware.com/CGChallenge.

“Alienware is very proud to have partnered with CG Networks on the greatest 3D design contest that either company has ever participated in,” said Kevin Wasielewski, vice president of marketing for Alienware Corporation. “We're honored to recognize such hard working, creative individuals. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to the participating contestants.”
