Team to compete at WCG 2004 in San Francisco next month.
The World Cyber Games, sponsored by Samsung Electronics, is proud to announce the winners of the U.S. National Final held in Long Beach September 18 and 19. Members of "Team USA" advance to the World Cyber Games 2004 Grand Final in San Francisco next month.
The U.S. Final saw the top American talent in PC and video gaming go head-to-head during two days of intense competition. Over 200,000 subscribers worldwide followed the contest via a special Internet cybercast. Winning players now pit their skills against the world's premier gamers at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium from October 6-10, 2004. The 5-day event will see 700 competitors from 64 countries battle for honor, titles and a prize pool totaling over $400,000.
Competing teams gain more than just prizes - the World Cyber Games brings together international players for a common cause that fosters global understanding and cultural sharing. Organizers expect thousands of gamers, spectators and exhibitors from across the globe to converge on San Francisco for the largest video game and cyber-culture festival in the world.
"Team USA" 2004 will be the first team outside Korea to compete at a Grand Final in its home country. At last year's World Cyber Games in Seoul, Team USA won medals in Halo, Counter-Strike and Unreal Tournament 2003.
"Samsung Electronics is excited to sponsor the World Cyber Games for the third year in a row," said Peter Weedfald, Senior Vice President of Samsung Electronics America. "The San Francisco Grand Final marks the beginning of a new era in gaming in the United States. At the World Cyber Games, spectators and competitors from around the world will meet in the spirit of international harmony and competition for the first Grand Final event held outside of Korea."
