The road to PC and Video game glory continued today with the World Cyber Games Committee drawing the preliminary brackets for the World Cyber Games Grand Final. The drawing took place at the official Players' Village, the Courtyard Marriott Hotel in San Francisco, with Professor Jason Wiener of the California Art Institute's Games Department presiding.
First round matches begin Thursday, October 7th. Competitors face off during two days of group full league play before the final single elimination rounds commence on October 9th. With over $400,000 in prize money for the taking, the drawing determines who will have an easier road to the Gold and who will have to fight for the Final round.
The random group drawing creates some exciting potential match-ups. CounterStrike Group J will be heavily contested, as will Group N, featuring the much-anticipated France-Germany match-up.
Reigning Halo gold medallist Matthew Leto is in Halo group C with challengers from Korea, Canada, Mexico and fellow American, Stephen Booth. The group placement of Warcraft finalists Joe Anderson and Matthew Anderson means that the two may have the opportunity to face off against each other in later rounds of play.
