The official name of Nintendo’s new double-screen handheld is still the "DS".
The company chose to stick with the code name for the device, as it “evokes the idea of a portable system with ‘dual screens,’ providing the rationale for the final name.” The product itself also seems slimmed down in final product shots, and sports a black base with the rest of the device sheathed in platinum. A storage slot will also be included for the DS’s stylus.
Nintendo still isn’t ready to disclose a launch date or pricing for the device, but said over 120 games for the DS are currently in development, 20 of them first-party. Over 100 companies have signed to make DS games.
Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales and marketing, added "We've figured out the magic of what makes portable gameplay so attractive to consumers. We've defeated nine challengers and once again we're prepared to win."
