BYOC event in San Francisco
by Jolex Del Pilar

Friday, August 13 2004

World Cyber Games brings opportunity for gamers to show off their rigs.

Keys? Check. Wallet? Check. Desktop computer? Better grab that, too. That's the message organizers of the "Bring Your Own Computer" (BYOC) party are spreading to the hundreds of gamers anticipated at the World Cyber Games 2004- the planet's largest game event- October 6-10, 2004 in San Francisco. Samsung and NVIDIA are adding an incentive for the extra effort: lots of prizes.

As part of the World Cyber Games Grand Final, the BYOC gathering will sprawl out across a grass square in front of San Francisco City Hall for around the clock play during the five-day festival. Participants bring their own equipment (and caffeine) to the square, plug in to the Local Area Network (LAN), and compete against each other in various games. Players can win brand new Shuttle Game PC computers, Samsung MP3 players and NVIDIA graphic cards.

"Gamers can expect to have their skills and strategic thinking challenged to even higher levels by competing against some of the best players in the world," said Hank Jeong, CEO of the World Cyber Games. "A passionate gamer may be going head-to-head against the eventual winner(s) among 700 national players coming to San Francisco."

The BYOC event will feature seats available for those who purchase the One-day Pass ($15.00) and some dedicated seats for gamers who purchase the Five-day Pass ($60.00). All players will receive admission tickets and t-shirts, with Five-day Pass holders also taking home a Razor mouse and mouse pad.

The BYOC event is Open Play, where participants play games of their choice and participate in special daily tournaments sponsored by NVIDIA. Applications are accepted on a first-come-first-served basis at the official
World Cyber Games site: (http://www.worldcybergames.com/wcg2004/wc_byoc.asp#1).

The BYOC has taken root as a popular gaming event in the U.S. and Europe. Hundreds and sometimes thousands of gamers gather at BYOC events to play games non-stop for several days.

This is the first time in its four-year history that the World Cyber Games will be held in the USA. Samsung is the worldwide sponsor for the 2004 World Cyber Games, which features over 700 top gamers from 60 countries worldwide. An estimated one million gamers have joined in the online and offline World Cyber Games preliminaries held in participating countries since April.
