Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo to make E3 hardware war.
E3 2005 is becoming is fast becoming a launching point for new consoles as Sony Corp. has expressed its intention to show off the next incarnation of its PlayStation at the videogame trade show. Ken Kutaragi, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, and the “father of the PlayStation” says the company plans to have a playable version of the new console on-hand at the 2005 conference. “There has been some talk that development is not going well, but we expect to have a playable version at E3,” he stated, adding, “We are pushing ahead with that schedule in mind.” Nintendo has also expressed an intention to show off its latest console hardware at next year’s show, planning to demo its GameCube successor, codenamed “Revolution.” Microsoft Corp., which industry insiders expect to release its next-generation device first, possibly as early as next year, has yet to announce its intentions, but certainly would do everything in its power to avoid slipping out of the three-horse race. Sony officials indicated that the new device could follow the same release timetable as the PlayStation 2, which was released in Japan just about one year after first being shown publicly.
