Aquisition gives Infospace reach into mobile gaming market.
InfoSpace, Inc. today announced the acquisition of the assets of Atlas Mobile, Inc., a provider of mobile multiplayer tournament games. Atlas Mobile, which was launched in 2003 on Verizon Wireless' Get It Now service and is currently available to subscribers of Alltel, Midwest Wireless, U.S. Cellular and Western Wireless, provides users with well-known, simple games such as Tetris Tournament for Prizes (published by Blue Lava Wireless), Hold’em Poker+ for Prizes and Solitaire for Prizes. Atlas Mobile's biggest selling point is that "through a complete client-server tournament service, every Atlas Mobile game allows mobile phone players to compete against each other to win prizes in continuous head-to-head and progressive tournaments." Jim Voelker, chairman and chief executive officer of InfoSpace, Inc., commented, “The acquisition of Atlas Mobile’s multiplayer tournament game platform and portfolio of games accelerates our entry into the fast-growing mobile games market. With its innovative approach to mobile gaming, Atlas allows us to leverage the power of competition and community in growing our mobile business.”
