9th annual QuakeCon will showcase Doom 3 deathmatch mode.
The 9th annual QuakeCon event has been scheduled for August 12-15 at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas, where players will be able to participate in the first ever DOOM 3 deathmatch championship. NVIDIA Corporation will be sponsoring the event by "putting up the largest QuakeCon prize package ever," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. $150,000 in cash and prizes will be up for grabs for the three QuakeCon tournaments: DOOM 3 Inaugural Deathmatch Championship, The QUAKE III Arena 1 vs. 1 Championship, and Quake III Capture the Flag Tournament. Dan Vivoli, executive vice president of marketing for NVIDIA, commented, "NVIDIA's presence at QuakeCon gives gamers an opportunity to test drive the game with NVIDIA's GeForce 6 series, a product family designed to deliver the ultimate DOOM 3 experience to gamers of all budget-levels." QuakeCon 2004 registration, on a "first-come, first serve" basis, has already begun at http://www.quakecon.org. The event is free to all attendees. DOOM 3, published by Activision, Inc., is rated 'M' (Mature) and will ship for the PC on August 3. An Xbox version will follow this fall.
