Tiger Hill Entertainment to allocate big budget on Metroid flick.
Reuters recently reported that action director John Woo has licensed the film rights to Nintendo’s Metroid videogame franchise.
Woo’s Tiger Hill Entertainment production company will reportedly spend over $100.0 million to produce the movie, which a spokesperson said would focus on the origins of Samus, Metroid’s female alien butt-kicked extraordinaire.
A release date of 2006 was tentatively mentioned.
Producers Warren Zide and Craig Perry originally acquired the film rights to the videogame franchise early in 2003, but those rights apparently lapsed, allowing Woo to step in.
