Soldiers: Heroes of World War II details
by Kit

Friday, April 9 2004

Codemaster's has released some gameplay details for their upcoming hybrid game.

Codemasters announced today additional details on the missions featured in Soldiers: Heroes of World War II, the company’s forthcoming real time strategy game. Expanding upon trial and error genre styles, the game allows players to control individual components of forces and rewards initiative during crucial elements of game play. Exclusively for PC/CD-ROM, Soldiers: Heroes of World War II invades store shelves June 2004.

A mix of third person action-packed missions set in realistic, fully destructible environments, Soldiers: Heroes of World War II improves upon the genre’s popular “select and direct” controls by enabling players to manipulate individual components of their forces. Offering missions in an against the odds style, bold decisions and reckless heroics prove successful as the game offers several paths to victory in completing mission objectives.

In one instance, players are commissioned to destroy a lighthouse and prevent opposing forces from learning their current positions. A variety of options exist to complete the mission, including using knives to remove enemy presence after swimming to shore or commanding a boat while utilizing torpedoes and an artillery gun. At a later stage of the campaign, players are asked to steal an enemy plane. Offering a variety of obstacles, the game presents an environment prime for diversity and loaded with replay value.

Soldiers: Heroes of World War II also dispenses with the “do it our way or fail” prescription for game play by rewarding individual initiative. Players are encouraged to consider options carefully as often a smarter tactic awaits inclusion in the most successful plan of attack. In each instance of play, enemy A.I. reacts to specific situations rather than by predetermined scripts, thus putting players squarely at the center of game play action. Each item in the game is modeled precisely to its real world counterpart, including intricate firing characteristics of weapons and ammunition, detailed operating requirements for tanks and full damage physics for buildings.

Developed by Ukrainian company Best Way, Soldiers: Heroes of World War II, exclusively for PC/CD-ROM, releases June 2004. For more information on Soldiers: Heroes of World War II, please visit http://www.codemasters.com/soldiers.
