SCEA announces higher sales for its flagship system.
Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) informed VGLN.com today that the company has recorded sales more than double for PlayStation 2 hardware since its price was lowered to $149.00 in May.
SCEA stated that sales rose 216.0 percent in week-over-week results following the PS2’s first seven days of availability at $149.00. An overall increase of 141.0 percent to-date was also realized, compared to the three week period before the new price took effect. The same three-week, post mark-down period saw sales up 26.0 percent from the same dates one year earlier.
Jack Tretton, executive vice president of SCEA, said, “This price drop came when we felt it was strategically the best timing to expand the market, and it’s gratifying to see consumers respond so aggressively to our commitment to meet their growing expectations.”
“Response to the $149 price point has been amazing,” added Debbie Mola, divisional vice president of merchandising for Electronics Boutique.
